Jesus in Islam

What Does The Quran say about The Jesus – God in Islam

Author: Farhat

Indeed, the believers, Jews, Christians, and Sabians—whoever ˹truly˺ believes in Allah and the Last Day and does good will have their reward with their Lord. And there will be no fear for them, nor will they grieve. (Quran 2:62)

There are many similarities between Christianity and Islam. No Muslim is a Muslim if he/she does not believe in Jesus (peace be upon him). Muslims believe that Jesus / Eesaa / Isa (pbuh) is one of the mightiest messengers of God along with Adam, Moses, Ibrahim and Muhammad (peace be upon them). It is mentioned in the Holy Quran that Jesus (pbuh) and was born miraculously, without any male intervention and he gave life to the dead, healed those born blind and healed the lepers (with God’s permission).

The Aramaic word for “God” in the language of Assyrian Christians is Ĕlāhā, or Alaha. Arabic-speakers of all Abrahamic faiths, including Christians and Jews, use the word “Allah” to mean “God“. The Christian Arabs of today have no other word for “God” than “Allah“.

Holy Quran was the final revelation from Allah to the last and final messenger Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Quran was revealed to him over a period of 23 years through Angel Gabriel with the same message of worshipping One True God / Allah.

Let us see how Jesus (pbuh) is mentioned by Allah in the Quran and why Muslims do not consider Jesus as God.

GOD DOES NOT HAVE A SON OR A PARTNER

˹Allah is˺ the One to Whom belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, Who has never had ˹any˺ offspring, nor does He have a partner in ˹governing˺ the kingdom. He has created everything, ordaining it precisely. (Quran 25:2)

And say, “All praise is for Allah, Who has never had ˹any˺ offspring; nor does He have a partner in ˹governing˺ the kingdom; nor is He pathetic, needing a protector. And revere Him immensely.” (Quran 17:111)

JESUS (PBUH) IS NOT A SON OF GOD; BUT A PROPHET OF GOD

The Messiah would never be too proud to be a servant of Allah, nor would the angels nearest to Allah. Those who are too proud and arrogant to worship Him will be brought before Him all together. (Quran 4:172)

The Messiah, son of Mary, was no more than a messenger. ˹Many˺ messengers had ˹come and˺ gone before him. His mother was a woman of truth. They both ate food. See how We make the signs clear to them, yet see how they are deluded ˹from the truth˺! (Quran 5:75)

JESUS (AS) WAS NOT KILLED OR CRUCIFIED; BUT WAS RAISED TO THE PRESENCE OF GOD

˹Remember˺ when Allah said, “O Jesus! I will take you and raise you up to Myself. I will deliver you from those who disbelieve, and elevate your followers above the disbelievers until the Day of Judgment. Then to Me you will ˹all˺ return, and I will settle all your disputes. (Quran 3:55)

Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “If the Most Compassionate ˹really˺ had offspring, I would be the first worshipper.” Glorified is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Lord of the Throne, far above what they claim. (Quran 43:81-82)

GOD WILL FORBID PARADISE TO THOSE WHO ASCRIBE A SON OR PARTNER OR ANYTHING ELSE TO HIM

Those who say, “Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary,” have certainly fallen into disbelief. The Messiah ˹himself˺ said, “O Children of Israel! Worship Allah—my Lord and your Lord.” Whoever associates others with Allah ˹in worship˺ will surely be forbidden Paradise by Allah. Their home will be the Fire. And the wrongdoers will have no helpers. (Quran 5:72)

GOD DOES NOT FORGIVE ANYTHING BEING ASSOCIATED WITH HIM

Indeed, Allah does not forgive associating others with Him ˹in worship˺, but forgives anything else of whoever He wills. And whoever associates others with Allah has indeed committed a grave sin. (Quran 4:48)

Surely Allah does not forgive associating ˹others˺ with Him ˹in worship˺, but forgives anything else of whoever He wills. Indeed, whoever associates ˹others˺ with Allah has clearly gone far astray. (Quran 4:116)

GOD REASONS WITH HIS SERVANTS IN THE QUR’AN, WITH THE FOLLOWING:

˹He is˺ the Originator of the heavens and earth. How could He have children when He has no mate? He created all things and has ˹perfect˺ knowledge of everything. (Quran 6:101)
